The assignment was to create a video in Premiere Pro, and a film studio for our group. Our group consisted of me, Anna Karpova, and Allyssa Howe. I was the team leader, and our studio was Athena Film Studios. We created a documentary about the hit indie band The xx.

 

The documentary touches on the background of the band and how they began, as well as on the progression and evolution of the band as they rose to fame.

Exercising fair use for educational purposes, we at Athena Film Studios gathered and pieced together a compilation of interviews and live performances by The xx from YouTube. We sorted out the most interesting and relevant information from the interviews and organized it all to tell the story of The xx.

 

By using jump cuts and cross dissolves, we created a seamless documentary that allows the band members themselves to tell their story and give the audience a taste of both their music, and their on and off stage personas.

 

The audio and visual fades tied all of these clips together. The cross dissolves and dips to black transitions really fit with the imagery we were working with, especially transitioning into live show clips. We used exponential fade and constant grain to fit the audio clips together smoothly. We also adjusted the volume of the overlapping video and audio clips to make sure the voices in the interviews were always audible over the music.
